Small Ballast Point Brewery wins big
San Diego’s Ballast Point Brewery was named the small brewing company of the year at the World Beer Cup competition in Chicago Saturday night.
“This is the ultimate award you can win for a brewery our size,” said Ballast Point owner Jack White.
Three of the company’s brews – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Piper Down Scottish Ale, Fathom IPL and Sculpin IPA – took the top award in their categories as well, leading the company to tie with a Japanese brewer for the most gold awards in the competition.
Ballast Point makes its beer in Scripps Ranch and in Linda Vista, and was one of 642 brewers from 22 countries entered in the competition.
