New Brewpub in Santa Barbara
Downtown Santa Barbra will be home to a new brewpub. The Union Ale Brewing Company is located at 214 State Street and will offer 20 beers on tap, four of them made by Union Ale including California Pale, Hefeweizen, Honey Blonde and IPA. The drink menu will also include beer cocktails & wine cocktails.
Union Ale is hoping to have a grand opening this July. More details as they become available.
Thanks for the comment. I wasn’t able to get in touch with them – no one returned my call. Glad to hear they have good beers on tap but the “Brewing Company” name is misreprentative and decptive for sure. Do they have any plans to brew do you know?
It is contract brewing at first. Making your own beer is very expensive, especially if you are a restaurant just openning. Many places do this until they are established…example The Brewhouse. Union Ale does have plans to brew their own beer, but need to make sure the restaurant is doing well before making the investment. They have plans to contract in the near future with a place in SLO that will allow them to come into their establishment and actually make their own on site. Very cool.
Well…I wouldn’t say that “many” places do this, but granted, some do. Contract brewing the beer at another brewery is very different than brewing on-site. And having the “house” beer contract brewed at another brewery does not make the business a “brewery.” It is important to not deceive the consumer about what a “brewery” is. If there is no brewery on site, it should be be perceived as a brewery. I hope the consumer is not confused once Union starts serving their “own” beer.
Good luck.
