Joseph McCullough has served the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) since 2001 and is currently the Deputy Division Chief of Headquarters’ Operations. His responsibilities include oversight of statewide training for sworn and non-sworn employees, development of policy and procedure, responsible beverage service for stakeholders, and awarding grants to allied law enforcement agencies.
Joseph started his career as an Investigator in the San Francisco ABC District Office and has been instrumental in furthering ABC’s mission through his leadership in a variety of assignments including managing the Northern Division Special Operations Unit and the Stockton District Office.
Joseph is dedicated to solving problems in the community and working cooperatively with industry stakeholders to ensure a safe and fair alcoholic beverage marketplace. He believes proactive education and prevention efforts and a balanced approach through focused enforcement strategies form the foundation of public safety for the industry and communities. Joseph believes ABC licensees desire an industry that is both law abiding and accountable. He places a high value on collaboration between ABC, local law enforcement agencies, and the communities they serve in addressing quality of life issues. Joseph endeavors to lead in a professional, honest, and collaborative manner using humility as a bedrock principle.
Joseph graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He enjoys baseball, spending time outdoors with his family, and volunteering in his community.
