Summit Schedule - Friday, Sept. 11th
The popularity of IPA’s is relatively new. This talk will explore the progression and history of popular craft beer styles, from the first pale ales to the of red ales, hefe’s and others, and then explore what the next generation of favorite styles might be.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company was one of the very first craft breweries in the country. When the brewery opened in 1980, there were only about 40 breweries total in the US. Ken will tell stories from the early days and expound on the trail and tribulations of piecing together a brewery from scratch and selling what was at the time a revolutionary new type of beer flavor experience.
Natalie's talk will focus on women in the beer industry. Going over some history, then highlight a few female notables in our industry, and discuss the myriad of career opportunities available for both women and men equally.
Brooks' talk on the History of Craft Beer in California will take a fond look back at the past nearly 50 years since Anchor Brewery was bought by Fritz Maytag , and the landscape of craft beer has exploded since, from the pioneers who started New Albion, Sierra Nevada and Triple Rock to today's 400+ breweries throughout the Golden State.

Bill Sysak, "Dr. Bill", is widely considered one of the foremost experts on craft beer and food pairings in the world. Come join him on a journey through the art of pairing beer and food. He will take you through basic flavor principles, and give you the tools needed to pair a broad spectrum of regional cuisines. His "Master Pairing" concepts will allow even the most experienced palates to further enhance their level of expertise, yet still allow the novice the building blocks to begin their journey into the craft of beer and food pairings.
Quality assurance from gas to glass. Pouring a perfect pint. We will discuss best practices gleaned from the Brewers Association Draught Beer Quality Manual and other resources. Topics will include; preventing keg abuse, identifying potential issues that impact temperature, pressure cleanliness and bartender behavior. Basic system operation and troubleshooting.
Candace and Andy will examine the use and implications of social media and other mobile tools in the highly regulated craft beer industry. Learn how to effectively market your bar, brewery, or retail location, appeal to the lucrative millennial demographic, and simultaneously stay in compliance with ABC regulations.

Known universally as the first craft brewery in the US since before Prohibition, Anchor Brewing was the seed that has now sprouted into a movement that has redefined beer culture in the US and revolutionized the brewing industry worldwide.
