California Craft Brewers Association Announces New Executive Director

SACRAMENTO, CA –  The California Craft Brewers Association (CCBA), the oldest and largest trade association representing craft breweries in the country, has announced the selection of a new Executive Director Kelsey McQuaid-Craig.

With a master’s in Public Administration, and as a Certified Association Executive, McQuaid-Craig will continue the association’s commitment to supporting membership and advocating at the state level on behalf of California craft brewers, while continuing to strengthen the association’s operations. With over a decade of association management experience, McQuaid-Craig most recently held the role of Director of Policy and Programs with the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

McQuaid-Craig adds a lens of organizational effectiveness to the CCBA’s long standing history.

“As a dedicated association professional who enjoys a good craft beer, I look forward to learning from and engaging with the CCBA Board and members to strengthen the California craft brewing industry,” said McQuaid-Craig.

McQuaid-Craig has already begun her transition into the Executive Director role, working closely with exiting Executive Director Lori Ajax. A collaborative and overlapping transition enusres the CCBA will remain at the forefront of advocating on behalf of its membership, as well as ensuring strategic partnerships with allied organizations will continue.

Sierra Grossman, Board Chair, expressed the organization’s excitement with McQuaid-Craig, stating, “The Board knows that Kelsey will focus on enusring the CCBA’s organization is as strong as it can be as we continue to be challenged in our ever-changing economic climate. With a strong association, we can continue to play a pivotal role in being the voice of craft brewers at the State Capitol.”

Governor Gavin Newsom Signs AB 2174 into Law, Expanding Opportunities for California Craft Breweries

SACRAMENTO, CA. –  Today marks a major breakthrough for the California craft beer industry as Governor Gavin Newsom signs Assembly Bill 2174 (Aguiar-Curry) into law, allowing beer manufacturers to sell their beer at both public and private events through the use of a Beer Caterer’s Permit.

Starting January 1, 2025, beer manufacturers holding a type 01 or 23 license will be able to apply for a Beer Caterer’s Permit to sell their beer for consumption at events held off their licensed premises, including street fairs, community gatherings, private parties, and civic events held anywhere in the state which have been approved by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). This permit allows the brewery to sell up to 124 gallons of beer at each event for a maximum for 36 events per calendar year.

“We commend Governor Gavin Newsom, Assembly Majority Leader Aguiar-Curry, and the Legislature for their unanimous approval of this important bill.” stated Lori Ajax, Executive Director of the California Craft Brewers Association (CCBA). “This legislation recognizes the essential role that craft brewers play in California’s hospitality industry, highlighting their value as small businesses and contributors to their local communities.”

AB 2174 is an important milestone in supporting small businesses in the industry with growth opportunities that can strengthen the ties between independent craft breweries and their communities.

California Craft Brewers Association Announces Departure of Executive Director

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Craft Brewers Association, the oldest and largest state trade association representing craft breweries in the country, has announced the forthcoming departure of Executive Director Lori Ajax. Ajax is set to leave her position at the end of the year.

During her time in office, Ajax used her experience as a state regulator for alcohol and cannabis to champion and advance the interests of the craft beer community.

“I am honored to have been part of a great team that advocates tirelessly for the interests of California craft brewers. It has been a privilege to support and serve California’s entrepreneurial and historic craft beer community, and I look forward to sharing a beer with our next ED,” said Ajax.

Since joining the California Craft Brewers Association in 2021, Ajax has successfully worked with the Board of Directors and staff to identify and implement process improvements, played a key role in passing crucial legislation, and established strategic partnerships with allied organizations.

Sierra Grossman, Board Chair, expressed the organization’s gratitude to Ajax, stating, “The Board wishes her the best of luck and opportunities in her future endeavors. Lori will stay until the end of the year or until her successor has been selected, and the board will continue to oversee the process of permanently filling the position. We are confident that Lori and the staff will make this a smooth transition for our membership, partners, and stakeholders.”

CA Craft Breweries Are Launching A Statewide Beer Collab

SACRAMENTO, CA –  The annual CCBA Brewers Collaboration, hosted by the California Craft Brewers Association (CCBA), is just a week away! This statewide event is the CCBA’s annual fundraiser, aimed at promoting the vibrant craft beer scene in California and the association.

Each year, breweries from across the state unite to celebrate and support the CCBA by doing what they do best – brew delicious beer! This year, twenty-two (22) independently owned and operated craft breweries are participating, each crafting their own unique recipe to be released between Friday, July 19 – Sunday, July 28. These limited-edition offerings are a testament to the diverse beer styles and collaborative spirit within the craft beer industry.
