2017 Economic & Social Impact of LA County Craft Breweries
Craft breweries are contributing to the LA County economy through investment, production, sales, and employment. In 2017, LA craft breweries generated approximately $96 million of economic impact, 796 jobs, and $34 million in labor income in LA County. This economic impact represents a 45% increase relative to a 2015 study by the National University System Institute for Policy Research (NUSIPR). LA’s craft breweries’ economic activity generated $22 million in tax revenue, of which $13 million went to state and local municipalities. In addition to their economic and tax impact, these breweries are active in supporting their communities through charitable giving, providing event space, and engaging with other local businesses.
With the growth of craft beer nationally and in LA County specifically, expectations for the industry in the near term are high amongst LA craft breweries. The craft beer industry in LA County is nascent as compared to similar municipalities and there is still room for further customer penetration and growth.
This report was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild (LABG) to measure the economic and social impact that independent craft breweries have on LA County.
