California Breweries Receive 68 Medals at 2019 Great American Beer Festival, More Than Any Other State
The Great American Beer Festival, the world’s largest commercial beer competition, took place for the 33rd time last week at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. This year, judges evaluated a record 9,497 entries from 2,295 breweries, handing out 318 medals in 174 beer style categories. Of the 50 states represented in the competition, California took home the most impressive haul with a total of 68 medals awarded.
“This year’s GABF competition was the largest and most competitive to date,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “The beers and talent were as impressive as ever, and we congratulate this year’s winners for their achievements in brewing.”
In addition to California’s 68 medals, Colorado tallied the second highest medal count with 40, followed by Texas with 16, Oregon and Ohio with 15, and Washington with 14.
Of the 68 California medals awarded, Kern River Brewing Co. came out ahead with a total of 4 medals.
